![]() ![]() It goes without saying that a big reason for having a lake cabin is to escape from reality. I raided my stash/hoard and also found a few items at the thrift shop and a tag sale. As part of my theme, I’m sharing what I think are the big reasons to enjoy a lake cabin, plus decorating ideas for you to use to get the same vibe. Lakehouses are great places to unwind when you’re not working on them (just ask my parents about that). Aren’t they fun? (You can see a little tour of my parents’ lakehouse HERE.) Here’s one of my favorite photos of their neighbors colorful chairs, snapped 6 years ago. But it still has some vintage elements splashed about the place. They remodeled the house back in 1991 so it’s not all vintage and rustic these days. In the years since then, I’ve spent many days there swimming, sunbathing, and generally having a great time. This challenge is special to me because my parents bought a rustic lake cabin back in the early 80’s. Here’s the inspiration photo for my look: Love vintage items? I wish I were in Minnesota right now to go lounge on those Adirondack chairs and drink in the view.Ī corrugated metal fish greets you upon arrival at the lake house. I love the simple lines of the architecture. The lake house and outbuilding are quaint and stately at the same time. Matching plaid throws allow you to linger longer into the cool nights. When you live on a lake, it’s important to have comfy seating on the porch to enjoy the waterfront views. I always love the surprise of the unexpected. Pairing opposites is a great way to create visual appeal in a room. White, feminine bedding pairs with the more rustic artwork. Simple twig artwork adorns each bed (note to self: collect the fallen branches in the yard and make one of these grids). Red makes another appearance in a guest bedroom. Pretty upholstered chairs add an air of elegance.Īnother dining space awaits just outside on the screened-in porch. I love that the wood ceilings run throughout the main living areas, helping to unify one space to the next. The dining room enjoys twin pendant lights that provide a soft glow above the table. A rich wood cabinet overhead provides a space for storing favorite reading materials. A built-in nook with wall sconces creates a cozy reading corner. Note that the pendant lights are similar, yet different.Īttention to beautiful detail is evident throughout the Minnesota lake house. The lake house kitchen comes alive with pale blue cabinets.Ī red range adds an element of fun surprise. Simple Roman shades allow full views out the window to the gorgeous scenery outside. Rich wood floors, ceiling, and trim keep the room cozy while a brick and wood mantel fireplace add warmth on cooler evenings. In the living room, the walls reflect board and batten siding as seen on the home’s exterior. The home is warm and inviting, with a few little quirks tossed in for fun!
